Rural to Urban Migration – Does rural to urban migration of unskilled labourers cause family break ups? If so, please explain how this has happened in your community. If not, please explain how not. This question is the theme for the 61st edition of the UCAA Newsletter.

We received 16 articles on this theme. 4 of these articles were from Change Agents of which we have selected four that we have published in this edition. Another seven articles were from the UCAA Programme Officers, giving their opinions of the general situation in their respective programme regions as regards to the effect of rural urban migration on families.

UNDECLARED INCOME IN A FAMILY AFFECTS DEVELOPMENT IN A HOME
(By Kobusinge Rachel Joy, Change Agent, UCAA Member, Burahya Central ( Kabarole) Branch

The situation of the husband and wife having undeclared separate income can affect the development of the family in the following ways:-

First, the situation itself is lack of transparency between the husband and wife and once there is that element, the development of the family is affected, as each one will be expecting high from the other.

Secondly, the undeclared income can weaken one party.

I am delighted for the opportunity UCAA has granted me to work as an Advocacy officer, and the responsibility of editing the UCAA Newsletter which I find exciting.

I am a graduate of Business Law from Nkumba University (Uganda), and I am currently pursuing a masters degree in Business Administration. I have worked with UCAA since May 2006 when I joined as a volunteer.

It is my hope that the wealth of Knowledge I have acquired over time especially from UCAA, together with your support and contributions shall take UCAA to much greater heights.
